چکیده

–Low frequency electromechanical oscillations are inevitable characteristics of power systems and they greatly affect the transmission line transfer capability and power system stability. Traditionally, power system stabilizers (PSS) are being used to damp these oscillations. Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is a well-known FACTS device that can control power flow in transmission lines. It can also replace PSS to damp low frequency oscillations effectively through direct control of voltage and power. In this paper a liberalized Philips-Heffron model of a (Single Machine– Infinite Bus) power system with a unified power flow controller is considered. The designed fuzzy-based UPFC controller adjusts four UPFC inputs by appropriately processing of the input error signal, and provides an efficient damping. The results of the simulation show that the UPFC with fuzzy-based controllers is effectively damping the LFO. Keywords—Low frequency Oscillations (LFO), Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC), Fuzzy logic, Damping controller, Flexiable AC transmission System (FACTS)

Stability Improvement During Damping of Low Frequency Oscillations with Fuzzy Logic Controller

Low Frequency Oscillations (LFO) occur in power systems because of lack of the damping torque in order to dominance to power system disturbances as an example of change in mechanical input power. In the recent past Power System Stabilizer (PSS) was used to damp LFO. FACTs devices, such as Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC), can control power flow, reduce sub-synchronous resonance and increase...

Alleviating the Small-Signal Oscillations of the SMIB Power System with the TLBO–FPSS and SSSC Robust Controller

Power systems are subjected to small–signal oscillations that can be caused by sudden change in the value of large loads. To avoid the dangers of these oscillations, the Power System Stabilizers (PSSs) are used. When the PSSs can not be effective enough, installation of the Thyristor–based compensators to increase the oscillations damping is a suitable method. In this paper, a Static Synchronou...
